GEA Bischoff GmbH received from the „Südbayerischen Portland-Zementwerk Gebr. Wiesböck & Co. GmbH” in Rohrdorf the contract for an SCR system (SCR = Selective Catalytic Reduction) for the NOx removal of the kiln exhaust gases.

In the SCR system, which is situated downstream of the kiln bag-filter, the NOx and NH3 emissions are reduced to levels that will meet also future regulations. Since the reduction process requires a temperature of about 250 °C, the kiln exhaust gases are heated up in a recuperative heat exchanger made by GEA Ecoflex. Additional thermal energy is supplied by a thermal oil loop by utilizing a part of the waste heat from the clinker cooler exhaust gases.

This DeNOx system will be the first of its kind in a cement plant worldwide. The advantages of the system comprises the retrofit into existing systems, low operation costs and high catalyst lifetime, because potential catalyst poisons are discharged in the upstreamed bag-filter.
